Kunnagala Temple
This temple is located on a hillock in the Kalugalle area of Kurunegala district.
There are legends that it was used as a forest retreat for meditating monks in the past.
There are several natural rock caves on the mountaintop, and locals say that some of the caves have old drip ledges. This is considered a hint that the place could have been a residence of ancient monks.
The area around Kurunegala can be observed very clearly from the mountaintop, and it is a peaceful place with natural beauty.
Currently, it is used as a pilgrimage and meditation center for the locals.
According to local legends,
Stories about the arahants who meditated in this mountain range have been passed down through generations.
It is also said that there were ancient stone seats and meditation places in some places.
It is also believed that this mountain range was used as a safe monastery in ancient times.
